Join us in a multi-sensory live music performance inspired by the rhythms of Brazil and NYC with original compositions in both English and Portuguese. In our workshops and parties we will provide costume accessories for everyone to be dressed up for the ultimate carnaval experience! We are Brooklyn-based but willing to travel. Available for public and private events, carnaval workshops, school assemblies, parties, parades, and all celebrations!
Sabina is a bursting-with-color artist and lover of everything CARNAVAL! Her desire is to connect families and communities by way of our shared cultural heritage found in the richness of carnaval and all of its facets. Bloco from da Block was created when Sabina realized a lack of programming that would offer culture and engagement for an intergenerational audience.
Sabina is a performer, musician, arts educator, costume maker, cultural producer and mother. Born in the relentlessly electric New York City, she is rooted in art and culture, student and daughter of world-renowned Brazilian percussionist Cyro Baptista.
Before creating Bloco from da Block Sabina worked in the theater, television, and advertising industries as a set painter and prop designer/stylist.
Since creating Bloco from da Block in 2022, Sabina has focused her career towards music and arts education, teaching workshops for families as well as in schools and institutions such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, HONK NYC, Battery Park, Cumbe Dance, and The Coop School. She is committed to creating accessible, intergenerational and inclusive art with all of those who wish to jump into the parade!
